The everyday tools, without the tab you leave open

Encoding something as Base64, hashing a file, formatting a blob of JSON, generating a UUID — these are the small jobs that interrupt other work, and the usual answer is a website that quietly receives whatever you paste into it. That is fine for a lorem ipsum paragraph and unwise for an API key, a customer export or an internal document.

Everything in this drawer runs in the browser, so what you paste stays in the tab. That is the whole argument for these versions: not that they do anything the others do not, but that they do it without the data leaving your machine.

    The ones worth knowing about

The hash generator works on files as well as text, which is what you want when checking a download against the checksum its publisher published — paste theirs in and the tool tells you whether the two match.

The JSON formatter reports the line and column of a syntax error rather than only refusing, which is usually the thing you actually needed. The CSV and JSON converters go both ways and handle quoted fields, embedded separators and typed numbers.

The password generator uses the browser’s cryptographic random source rather than Math.random, and shows the entropy in bits so the length and character choices can be judged rather than guessed.
