A video editor that never sees your video
Video is the most awkward thing to hand to a website: the files are large, the uploads are slow, and the free tiers stop at a few minutes or stamp a watermark across the result. The tools in this drawer run the conversion inside the browser tab instead, using a build of FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. Your clip is read from disk and written back to disk without a network request.
The trade is honest: the first run of a session downloads about 31 MB of video engine, and the conversion itself uses your own processor, so a long clip takes real time. In exchange there is no upload wait, no length limit, no account and no watermark.
Trimming, converting and extracting
Trimming a section out is the cheapest operation here, because it can usually be done by copying the existing streams rather than re-encoding them — the result is identical in quality to the original and takes seconds regardless of length.
Converting between containers, muting a clip, or pulling the audio out as MP3 are the same kind of work. Compressing and turning a clip into a GIF are the expensive ones, because every frame has to be decoded and written again.
