Guide: One format in, the one you need out2 min read

One format in, the one you need out

Drop one file or a whole folder's worth — MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG, FLAC, WMA, AMR, WhatsApp voice notes — pick the format and convert. Each file keeps its name with the new extension, plays in the preview before you save, and several come out together as a ZIP.

MP3 plays on anything. M4A (AAC) is the better-sounding choice at the same size and what iPhones record. WAV is raw audio for editing software, and FLAC holds exactly the same samples in about half the space. OGG is the open format some games and Linux players prefer.

    Quality, honestly

Lossy formats — MP3, M4A, OGG — let you choose the bitrate: 96 kbps is plenty for speech, 192 kbps is transparent for most music, 320 kbps is the ceiling. No setting restores what a source never had: converting a small MP3 to WAV or to 320 kbps makes the file bigger and the sound identical, and the page says so when it sees a compressed input going to a lossless format.

To keep only part of the recording, use trim audio; to take the sound out of a video, extract audio.

    Nothing is uploaded

Conversion is done by ffmpeg running in this tab. The engine is downloaded from this site once and kept, and the recordings — interviews, calls, voice notes — never leave your device.

    Frequently asked questions

    Which format should I choose?

MP3 when the file has to play on anything — an old car stereo, a school laptop, a website. M4A (AAC) sounds better than MP3 at the same size and is what iPhones use. WAV is for editing software that wants raw audio. FLAC keeps every sample like WAV in about half the space, for an archive.

Will converting WAV to MP3 lose quality?

Some, by design: MP3 throws away what the ear is least likely to notice. At 192 kbps most people cannot tell the difference on music and nobody can on speech. Keep the original WAV if you may need to edit it again.

Does converting MP3 to WAV or FLAC improve the sound?

No. What the MP3 threw away is gone; a lossless copy keeps the MP3's losses and takes more space. Converting to WAV is still the right move when an editor or a device asks for WAV — the page says so when the input is already compressed.

Can I convert WhatsApp audio to MP3?

Yes. WhatsApp voice notes are Opus audio, saved as .opus or .ogg. Drop them in, choose MP3, and they play on any phone or computer. Several can be converted at once and saved as a ZIP.

    Are my files uploaded?

No. ffmpeg converts them inside this tab. The first time the engine (31 MB) is downloaded from this site and kept; the audio never leaves your device.
