    Trim Audio

Keep the part of the recording you want, with a clean fade.

Drop a song or a recording

MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG, FLAC, voice memos. Drag the handles on the waveform to keep only part of it.

Cut on the waveform, not on a progress bar

Drop a song, a podcast or a voice memo and its waveform appears: speech is bursts, silences are flat, a song's chorus is the tallest stretch. Drag the two handles to keep the part you want — the rest is drawn faded — and type exact times underneath when you know them. The player jumps to each handle as you move it, so you hear where the cut lands before saving.

A cut in the middle of a sound clicks. The fade sliders bring the level up from silence at the start and back down at the end; half a second at each end hides the cut completely.

    Ringtones, voice notes and formats

For an Android ringtone, save as MP3 and pick the file in the phone's sound settings. For an iPhone, choose iPhone ringtone: it saves an M4R of up to 40 seconds — the page warns if the section is longer — which you add through Finder on a Mac or iTunes on Windows. WhatsApp voice messages open too, and saving them as MP3 makes them play anywhere.

MP3 and M4A are encoded at 192 kbps, transparent for speech and nearly so for music. WAV keeps every sample, which is the right choice for a clip that is going to be edited again. To take the sound out of a video first, use extract audio.

    Nothing is uploaded

The cut is made by ffmpeg running in this tab. The engine is downloaded from this site the first time and then kept, and the recording itself never leaves your device — which matters for voice memos, interviews and calls.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I make a ringtone?

Drag the handles around the part you want, add half a second of fade at each end and save. For Android choose MP3 and set it as the ringtone from the file. For an iPhone choose iPhone ringtone: it saves an M4R of up to 40 seconds, which you add to the phone through Finder on a Mac or iTunes on Windows.

Why does my cut click at the end?

Because the sound wave is stopped in the middle of a movement, and the speaker jumps. A short fade — half a second is plenty — brings the level down to silence first, and the click disappears. The fade sliders do exactly that.

    Does trimming lower the quality?

Saving to MP3 or M4A encodes the sound again, at 192 kbps, which is transparent for speech and nearly so for music. WAV keeps every sample and is the choice when the clip will be edited again. Nothing can add back quality the original did not have.

Can it open WhatsApp voice messages?

Yes. WhatsApp voice notes are Opus audio in an OGG file, and they open, play and cut like any other recording. Saving as MP3 makes them play on anything.

    Is my audio uploaded?

No. The cut is made by ffmpeg running in this tab. The first time, the engine (31 MB) is downloaded from this site and then kept; your recording never leaves your device.
